Sit back and get ready to be blown away by a totally awesome multimedia adventure… You are about to witness something very unusual and quite cool from Belarus, a post-Soviet state that is sometimes described as “Europe’s black hole.” We may be on “the edge of Europe,” but in a very edgy way. Ten years ago, we launched the best and only youth magazine in our country. Unfortunately, we were so cutting edge that we got closed down by a bunch of people who didn’t quite get it. But we were clever enough to relaunch the publication in a less regulated format, on compact disc. For the last two years, we’ve published a strange mix of video, audio, flash animation, interactive comics, photos, text and music. See for yourself… come take a look.
Our goal is to break stereotypes and highlight creative and active young people who are not afraid to be themselves and be free, unlike so many others in our post-Soviet space. We offer features about those who are different, unique, controversial, and provocative, but never constrained by our system. We will take you to places unseen, introduce you to people unknown, and show a youth life undiscovered, which is well-hidden but pulses underground. For all of you who can’t get your hands on one of our sought-after CDs, we’ve launched a website so you can come check us out. Feel free to download all sorts of things.
We love our native language, Belarusian, so most of our stuff might be incomprehensible to you. But we believe that freedom of expression cuts across borders, and the spirit of our materials – the vibe, the sense, the freedom - can be understood by all. But, if you still don’t get it, every year we publish an English-language collection of our best materials, “The Best of 34.”
Come on in and find a hidden Belarus. We are part European, part of the global youth culture, part democratic and a bit out of control. As we say, Vitayem!, welcome to a new and happening site that will change your perceptions of our small corner of the planet.
